“The Sophia” is one of three limited edition T-shirts created in collaboration with our friend, illustrator Manjit Thapp. It honours Sophia Duleep Singh, the granddaughter of Maharaja Ranjit Singh (”The Lion of Punjab”), who grew up in Britain as Queen Victoria’s goddaughter, but became a most ferocious Suffragette.

Thoughtfully weaved into Manjit’s illustration are symbols from Sophia’s life. Spot the lion — a tribute to her heroic grandfather, and the symbol of her zodiac sign, the Leo (what else?). Violet flowers and the “angel of freedom”, representing her dedication to the Suffragette cause. The India flag she was seen carrying at a Suffragette march — adding Indian women’s rights to the conversation. And the declaration of “Revolution!” — which was emblazoned on the placard she placed outside her home in Hampton Court Palace.

“The Sophia” is proudly made in Bangladesh from finest quality organic cotton, and illustrated in London, with an oversized fit most optimal for breezy merrymaking or prolonged lounging. Kindly find your most comfortable size using the guide below.

Wear with pride as a tribute to feminist heroes, a demand for equal rights for all.
