“The Rani of Jhansi” is one of three limited edition T-shirts created in collaboration with our friend, illustrator Manjit Thapp. It depicts a most beloved Indian heroine, Rani Lakshmi Bai — a fierce warrior queen who defended her realm from the East India Company, and led the charge in the 1857 rebellion.

Manjit has thoughtfully layered Rani Lakshmi Bai’s image with symbols from the queen’s life. There’s the horse on which she made her daring escape when cornered by the British, and the word ‘Jhansi’, the name of her kingdom, scratched onto her shield as a symbol of her rebellion against the Company. Notice the subtle ‘1857’, the year of the rebellion that Rani Lakshmi Bai led from the frontlines; and a letter written by the queen herself — the only tangible surviving evidence we have from her life, after the British burnt down her palace.

“The Rani of Jhansi” is proudly made in Bangladesh from finest quality organic cotton, and illustrated in London, with an oversized fit most optimal for breezy merrymaking or prolonged lounging. Kindly find your most comfortable size using the guide below.

Wear with pride as a tribute to female leaders, a reminder to be brave.
